2010 SPRING & SUMMER TRAVEL LINEUP ANNOUNCED BY CHAMBER

Each year the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce plans a series of International Trade Missions to various international destinations. Through its trade missions the Chamber is able to connect its members and travelers to cultures, customs and businesses in foreign markets. The spring & summer trade missions for the 2010 year are as follows:

SPAIN'S COSTA DEL SOL: Take off for Spain’s exotic playground, the Costa del Sol, for 9 days beginning on March 10th. Over forty-eight million tourists visit Spain each year, making it one of the three most visited countries in the world, & most come to indulge in the sun-drenched Southern coast, the Costa del Sol. This trip boasts 8 nights in Malaga, the heart of Spain’s Costa del Sol, with guided tours to the British fortress town of Gibraltar, a visit to the impressive Alhambra Palace, an excursion to the eclectic city of Seville & an all day trip across the Mediterranean to enticing and exotic Morocco. Experience the ancient city of Tangier, Morocco & embrace the crossroads of cultures between Arab architecture, African spirit and Spanish customs. Don’t miss out on a once in a lifetime and two continent vacation for the very affordable price of $2,059 with all hotel accommodations, airfare, taxes, breakfasts & coach transportation included.

THAILAND'S BANGKOK & CHANG MAI: Escape to Thailand, the Land of Smiles, for 9 exotic days in Southeast Asia, from May12th to the 20th. Experience the Thai culture, glittering golden temples, delicious cuisine & tropical paradises that encompass Thailand. Tour Thailand’s vibrant capital city of Bangkok on the city’s many klongs (canals) & understand the sensory thrill that is Thailand’s largest city. After partaking in cosmopolitan Thailand, retreat into Thailand’s interior & behold the country’s breathtaking natural beauty by visiting orchid fields, butterfly sanctuaries, lush tropical jungles & indigenous hilltop tribes. Elephant tours will guide you deep into the Thai jungle where you’ll witness ancient Thai customs, rich traditions & Buddhist temples. All flights, hotel accommodations, 18 meals & coach transportation are covered in the very affordable price of $2,099.

ARGENTINA'S CAPITAL - BUENOS ARIES: Buenos Aires, Argentina’s world class capital is a seductive city riddled with allure, intrigue, cross-cultural cosmopolitanism & Latin flare. You can see this all, first hand, from June 2nd to the 10th. Built by immigrants from all over Europe, Buenos Aires often surprises visitors with its uniquely mixed European & Latin American feel. Dubbed the “Paris of South America” Buenos Aires offers vacationers wide boulevards, street cafes, fine cuisine, theaters, thrilling nightlife & a chance to witness the birth of the world’s most sensual dance: the tango. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to soak up the Argentine way of life in its booming and mysterious capital city, Buenos Aires. Airfare, hotel accommodations, 16 meals (including a farewell tango dinner) & coach transportation all for the low cost of $2,459.

CHINA: Each year the Chamber takes Americans across the Pacific to interact with China & its people. Come & be a part of visiting the world’s largest country, one of its most dynamic economic powerhouses & a site on Earth that is decorated with deep traditions & customs. China is a complex country, offering modern bustling cities like Beijing, Shanghai & Hong Kong, yet still retains rustic Chinese havens, unspoiled natural delights & ancient marvels like the Great Wall of China & the Forbidden City. Your trip will include visits to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square & a ticket to the 2010 Business Expo in Shanghai. This is consistently one of our most popular trips, as it offers Americans a unique opportunity to peak inside the mystery that is China & view how one sixth of the world lives their lives, conducts their business & preserves their history. All airfare, hotel accommodations, meals, coach transportation & all taxes and gratuities are included for the incredibly low price of $2,199. Trips will begin departing San Diego on July 12th, 13th and 14th.

Chairman's Message

San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce - Chairman's Message - Roger Roberts, ChairmanAugust 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen-

Wow! What was up with that? We thought it was June gloom and it came in July. It was one of the coolest July’s in recorded history since weather data started being recorded in San Diego County. Starting the month off was having the pleasure of being engaged by George Chamberlin, Executive Editor for the San Diego Daily Transcript and radio and television finance personality, at our July First Friday Breakfast at BJ’s in La Mesa. Thank you to BJ’s for the warm hospitality and to George for the insightful commentary. We saw our board member Deanna Weeks retire from the East County Economic Development Council after nearly 25 years of service. Thank you Deanna for your years of service to the EDC. We also welcomed at our July First Friday Breakfast the new Executive Director of the El Cajon Community Development Corporation, Cindi Fargo.

For something new in August, as a surprise, we had our first “Night out with the Chamber” on August 2 at Hooleys in La Mesa. What a great opportunity to have dinner with Chamber friends and an opportunity to support one of our Chamber restaurants. Some business networking got done too! Thanks to Craig McDonald for offering happy hour prices and several discounted entrees for our members. Pay attention to e-mails from Mike Cully for future “Night out with the Chamber” restaurant opportunities. Our August First Friday Breakfast in El Cajon at the Ronald Reagan Community Center was a smashing success with fire fighters from El Cajon making flapjacks. Thank you to St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center for sponsoring this month’s breakfast. I look forward to seeing you at our second Politics in Paradise this month.  For September, watch your Chamber schedule for, SURPRISE, a great business expo in collaboration with several of our other Chamber’s of Commerce in the East County. We continue our efforts to deliver to you, our members, value for your membership. If you are not involved, I invite you to get involved. We seek your engaged activity in the committee of your choice.

Please watch our website for other upcoming events in August and you are not going to want to miss our September First Friday Breakfast. Sign up early. It will likely sell out.

Best regards to all,
Roger Roberts
