Chairman's Message
August 2010
Wow! What was up with that? We thought it was June gloom and it came in July. It was one of the coolest July’s in recorded history since weather data started being recorded in San Diego County. Starting the month off was having the pleasure of being engaged by George Chamberlin, Executive Editor for the San Diego Daily Transcript and radio and television finance personality, at our July First Friday Breakfast at BJ’s in La Mesa. Thank you to BJ’s for the warm hospitality and to George for the insightful commentary. We saw our board member Deanna Weeks retire from the East County Economic Development Council after nearly 25 years of service. Thank you Deanna for your years of service to the EDC. We also welcomed at our July First Friday Breakfast the new Executive Director of the El Cajon Community Development Corporation, Cindi Fargo.
For something new in August, as a surprise, we had our first “Night out with the Chamber” on August 2 at Hooleys in La Mesa. What a great opportunity to have dinner with Chamber friends and an opportunity to support one of our Chamber restaurants. Some business networking got done too! Thanks to Craig McDonald for offering happy hour prices and several discounted entrees for our members. Pay attention to e-mails from Mike Cully for future “Night out with the Chamber” restaurant opportunities. Our August First Friday Breakfast in El Cajon at the Ronald Reagan Community Center was a smashing success with fire fighters from El Cajon making flapjacks. Thank you to St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center for sponsoring this month’s breakfast. I look forward to seeing you at our second Politics in Paradise this month. For September, watch your Chamber schedule for, SURPRISE, a great business expo in collaboration with several of our other Chamber’s of Commerce in the East County. We continue our efforts to deliver to you, our members, value for your membership. If you are not involved, I invite you to get involved. We seek your engaged activity in the committee of your choice.
Please watch our website for other upcoming events in August and you are not going to want to miss our September First Friday Breakfast. Sign up early. It will likely sell out.
Best regards to all,
Roger Roberts
